How it all started...
A group of twelve families met in a home on May 24, 1965, and voted to form Faith Baptist Church and call George E. Abbas as the first pastor. Six days later, the first official service was held in the basement of the Sterling YMCA. The first baptism occurred on Independence Day, using the YMCA pool.
In August, 1968, a groundbreaking ceremony for a new building marked the beginning of a permanent location on Freeport Road, where the church still stands. Services began in the new facility six months later.
Within five years, the church's growth required the construction of an educational wing and remodeling of the original structure to expand the auditorium capacity. Further expansion projects added more space in the fellowship hall, as well as additional restroom and classroom space
In the Spring of 1974, the church launched Faith Baptist Christian School, providing an educational alternative to Christian families in the region. The school operated for 24 years in the Freeport Road facilities.
In its more than 60-year history, six different senior pastors have served the congregation, with current Pastor Bryan Bice serving since 2002.
Throughout those six decades of constant social and cultural change, FBC has endeavored to focus on the basics: preaching and teaching the Bible, simple God-honoring, Christ-exalting worship, warm congregational fellowship, and faithful gospel witness in the community.
