Why Am I Here?
King Solomon had asked God for wisdom and later searched for the answer to this profound question. Solomon begins telling us his findings with these words: “All is vanity and grasping for the wind.” He frequently uses the phrase, “under the sun,” by which he means all that is done by man, apart from the knowledge of and relation to our Creator.
Many have experienced this emptiness. But Solomon finished his search: “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:
Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13)
Solomon and the whole Bible give us a much different perspective on life than what we find “under the sun.” God is a God of purpose,
and His Word tells us what that purpose is. God has created all things for His own glory.
Futility has come because sin has separated us from our Creator.
Thankfully, God has not left us without hope, but has sent His own Son, Jesus Christ, into this world to take away our sins and bring us to Himself! Those who know God through Jesus are enabled to glorify God and enjoy His friendship.
Believers in Christ are given this assurance: “...that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
